The Matricciani family entered the utilities industry in 1922 doing private work, concentrating on house connections. Among the early projects was a contract in Baltimore installing an interstorm drain that ran from Chaney and Paca Street to the Harbor. It was a large and difficult project that required a level of commitment and expertise that the company met and built upon. When the 1930’s depression dried up the work in Baltimore, they successfully bid an out of state project to install the first sanitary sewerage system in Chester, Pennsylvania. The project lasted three years and was highlighted by their association with the WPA and federal government. The next significant project, in the early 40’s, catapulted them to a position of leadership in the industry that they still hold today. These were the military contracts in the war years, which consisted of building the utilities for the Aberdeen, Edgewood and Brainbridge military posts. In the late 1960’s, the company put in the largest sewer pumping station in Harford County at Willoughby Beach. Over the years, The Matricciani Company has completed a substantial number of private, public and institutional contracts including the Stemmers Run Pumping Station, Druid Lake Improvements and Regester Avenue Box Culvert and Channel Paving. The Matricciani Company completed a revolutionary project that entailed installing an Interlocking Keystone Retaining Wall along Old Pimlico Road in Baltimore County in conjunction with total road reconstruction. Their most recent accomplishment, however, was the installation of a 24” gravity sewer under Church Creek. The job required the company to temporarily divert a large amount of water which they did easily using the Portadam method; a frame system with a rubber membrane.
